AWA? Anyone? :D ????

I’ll be stopping by Anime Weekend Atlanta again later this month!

I don’t have a table but a lot of artists I admire will have tables there so I’ll be walking around and buying art. :D

Anyone else going?

Anonymous said: Do you have any advice for someone who is considering making an art blog?

Well, I’m no expert but I can list my thoughts and things I’ve learned along the way:

  1. You don’t have to have a reason to start one!
This art style began as a doodling/portrait style of me and my friends, and I created an art blog for it, then…. askthederpvengers became a side blog of that art blog.
  2. If you can, try to update on a regular basis!
In the beginning I was posting all the time and as a result got burnt out creatively very fast… I stopped posting as much and my motivation was just drained! Right now I update once a week and so far this is working for me. It helps me manage my time better and keeps the blog alive.
  3. Have fun with it!
It’s an art blog, and I think it’s supposed to be fun. It breaks my heart when I read how upset people can be just because their artwork doesn’t look like how someone else’s looks or how they feel it should look. It’s normal to be frustrated with art, I think that helps us strive to try new things and practice more. And the exciting thing about an art blog is that after a while you can see how much your style changes and evolves.
  4. Fan art can help get your style noticed.
This is optional of course… not everyone wants to create fan art.
I discovered some of my favorite artists because I saw their fan art online and this lead me to follow their blogs/work and sometimes even commission them. I’ve had people commission me because they saw my fan art, liked the style, and wanted something drawn for them. I think it can be a great way to find an audience (and express your love for a show/book/movie/etc)… and make new friends too!
  5. Share your art blog with me.
Seriously, I love seeing others’ works - drawings, paintings, photography, etc. I love it all!

Hope that helps, Anon! Now go start that art blog!
